It's the Little Things
This week we installed a new exhibit in the Museum at Tubac Presidio State Historic Park in Arizona. (Insert happy dance here!) It was both demanding and rewarding as each installation tends to be - and by the end of the work, we were thrilled with the outcome.
This case is the third Ancestral O'odham exhibit we've created this year alone, and as it developed one of the biggest challenges was how to make it fresh and different from the others. In pursuit of a unique feature for Tubac, we worked out a way to add depth to the display case, both literally - by using the glass as a display surface, and digitally - by adding QR codes for more interpretation.
Creating displays on the interior surface of the glass was pretty easy. Gorgeous photos printed on vinyl with second surface adhesive and viola! See our beautiful O'odham woman and her prickly pear harvest in the photo below.
The QR Code was trickier. After some mental noodling, we visited the local craft store and picked up inexpensive magnifying glasses. QR codes were printed on cardstock and fitted into the ring part, and the whole thing, mounted on the front of the display plinth, became the sign, reading "Take a closer look at an Ancestral O'odham lithic." Pretty cool, huh!?
Simple, economic, effective solutions - that's the M//P way!
